People have come together throughout the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted attack on that fateful day in October 2023, as discussions advanced in the neighboring country over an end to the hostilities in Gaza.

The assault saw in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured back to Gaza as hostages. It was the most most lethal day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel reacted by beginning a defensive operation in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are considered accurate by the UN and other global organizations.

"Our bloodthirsty adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not broken us," the prime minister added on that day.

He also promised to "accomplish all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will no longer present a threat to Israel".

Commemorative Events Across Israel

The Israeli government postponed state memorials until 16 October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still took place across the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the relatives of people who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was organized in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the families themselves, it was broadcast across Israeli TV networks.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was observed around the country.

Peace Talks in Egypt

At the same time, both sides' representatives met in the Egyptian coastal city of the negotiation venue for a second day of third-party negotiations to review the conditions of the plan.

A prominent Palestinian official familiar with the talks revealed that an late session of negotiations commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The official explained the day's discussions concluded without tangible results, due to conflicting views over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not resume combat after the opening period of the agreement.

He commented that the discussions are "challenging and have not yet deliver any major advancement," but noted that facilitators are striving to reduce the differences between the both parties.

Key Issues in Discussions

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the hostages still kept by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Arrangements for assistance provision
  • After-conflict management of the territory

Public Sentiment

In Tel Aviv's public square that day, young Hagar - whose sibling lived through the incident on the gathering, where hundreds were lost their lives and many more were captured by Hamas militants - explained: "No place appears as home anymore and until every captive are released not a single person will be secure."

"Once we see all home again, we can relax again. Then we can start to rebuild," she added.

In front of the prime minister's home in Jerusalem, people congregated to demonstrate their support for the families of the captives. Israel says 48 remain in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be surviving.

Activist one woman remarked: "We must do whatever arrangement necessary for the captives to come back home. But we really want assurances that we will be secure."

Research now frequently demonstrate that approximately the majority of Israeli citizens want the conflict to finish in return for the liberation of the hostages.

Palestinian Conditions

At the location of Nova festival, mourners gathered to pay their respects.

From the site, the boom of military attacks and artillery could be detected just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses said the severe Israeli bombardment persisted.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were noted in the morning of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, sector and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the eastern district of the community, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

"When the evening arrives, the dread arrives with it," displaced Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was killed by an Israeli aerial attack last year, described.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the air strikes. All the night we are resting together, holding each other, particularly my little child who places his head on me the entire evening."

"Constantly we look at the reports to see developments. And I'm worried that this halt will not be achieved and that the war will resume to us."

Medical Situation

The healthcare center in Gaza City reported it had received the remains of several people by the midday, including several who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

A different healthcare center in the south region of the city reported another two dead people had been delivered. An individual was died by Israeli forces while attempting to get aid to the southern area, medical staff reported.

The territory's health ministry reported 25 of the {territ
