The Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown Versus Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Astros winning the championship in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden World Series after 1993 by beating the Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the ALCS.
Behind 3-1, Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh inning, guiding the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 victory in the series. They will now face the defending champions, the team that is the defending champions, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for our team, our city, Canada," commented Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
Springer has now connected for 23 total October home runs, making him third on the list behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that spot besides George Springer with his post-season brilliance," said manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, who had led the early in the series, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it hurts" following his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their work in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this one," he remarked.
Toronto's team secured the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
