The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th installment, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode series written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The previous season concluded in 2021 with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
However, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers track the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh installment."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of series six drew the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the corporation announced on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
