The Reds Will Not Alter Forward-Thinking Philosophy In the Face of Current Struggles, Says Arne Slot
Liverpool's head coach has revealed that the team leadership share his views regarding the recent downturn and he refuses to compromise their offensive approach in search of a solution. The head coach conceded that six unsuccessful results in seven games was unacceptable ahead of Aston Villa's visit.
Pressure Mounting Amid Difficult Period
Slot accepted the expectations were high before his makeshift team suffered Carabao Cup elimination against Crystal Palace. However, he insisted that this urgency to stop the losing streak is not coming from the Anfield hierarchy or executive leadership following a significant spending of approximately £450 million.
"Our views align," stated the Liverpool boss, whose team next week face Los Blancos in the European competition and play against Manchester City in the Premier League.
Squad Quality Remains Unchallenged
Liverpool's manager thinks his team "boast a remarkable roster if they are fully healthy and completely set for the programme we are facing". He said that the recent signings in talents including Florian Wirtz and the forward, who is likely to miss out again against Aston Villa through injury, had left the club "in such a good place for the immediate prospects and the years to come".
Integration Challenges
When questioned about why his team were struggling to integrate, he answered: "That's not particularly helpful. 'What's causing this?' I offer insights and people say I'm making justifications. I can identify multiple factors why we are underperforming or losing as much as we do but, as I consistently state, there are never enough excuses to have a run of form as we had now."
- Even if I could come up with numerous reasons
- As Liverpool manager you cannot lose
- Unfortunately six losses from seven matches
Defensive Numbers
Only the Lancashire club (twenty-one) have faced more big chances from normal situations this season than Slot's team (nineteen). The table-toppers, the Gunners, have conceded only two. Yet Slot denies the defense has been too vulnerable and asserts there is no reason to sacrifice his attacking principles for a cautious system after ten fixtures without a goalless performance.
"From my perspective we don't giving up numerous openings so I find no basis to modify our philosophy entirely but we must improve in not conceding goals," he stated.
Specific Instances
"Versus the Red Devils, how many openings did we give up? When playing Frankfurt when we were leading 3-1, we hardly conceded a shot on target. In each fixture we have played so far we haven't allowed a numerous openings. Absolutely not. We do concede a somewhat more than last season but that stems from us being trailing by a goal so you become more adventurous. But overall I don't believe that our issue is that we give up too many openings. Our problem is we don't score the openings we produce."
